John born 13
July 1838 probably in Dublin, Ireland. Mother probably Jane.
21st Foot during the Crimean War. Deserted July 1855. Immigrated
13 October 1855 and went to Lansingburgh where he probably was
a brush maker, a trade his sister and her husband followed in
Ireland. Enlisted in US Navy and served in USS Wabash and later
in USS Relief. Returned to Lansingburgh and married Margaret
McCabe 3 July 1859. Enlisted in 30th NY Volunteer Infantry 24
April 1861. Volunteered for service on the Western Waters and
served in USS Carondolet and USS Lafayette. MOH awarded for
service in Carondolet. Discharged and reenlisted in 21st New
York Cavalry.

A. Owens; Francis X, unmarried; John; Edward, unmarried; Anna,
unmarried; Samuel, married Florence (?); Robert, married Mary
Reilly; Charles; Margaret Marie, unmarried.
John was a policeman in Troy;
a brush manufacturer in Brooklyn and worked for the Customs
Service in New York prior to his death in 1897.
