TROY IRISH GENEALOGY SOCIETY
Troy, New York

The regular monthly meeting of the Troy Irish Genealogy Society was held on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Brown’s Brewery, Troy New York. The following individuals were in attendance:

The meeting was called to order at 6:40 p.m. by Kris Ayotte, President.

A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes of the August 20, 2009 meeting. The motion passed. The minutes have been published on the TIGS website.

 

REPORTS

Correction to minutes- add Donna Vaughn to attendance at August meeting

Treasurer  Treasurer Lizette Strait reported that the current balance was $2582. 54 Lizette bought a binder for Treasurer files. Donna Vaughn made a motion to approve $7.87 for the binder.Dick Boland seconded .All in favor.There is a motion and second to accept the Treasurers report. All in favor.

List Administrator- -Brad Miter has reported there are 216 list members and that is a new record

OLD BUSINESS

Marriage Index Project Volume 9 is ready Bill McGrath reports, when the final check is done ,then he will forward it to Jeanne Keefe to post on our  website (www.rootsweb.ancestry.com /~nytigs/)) Tuesday and Fridays Volume 10 is ready to be photocopied.

Church Memorial Data Base- Kay Brearton has a booklet from St Peters Church that has beautiful pictures in it – looks about 50 years old.Kay and Bill McGrath are working on 4 churches records: St Peters, St Lawrence,Troy Methodist and Woodside Presbyterian.
 
St Agnes Cemetery-Jeanne Keefe and Bill McGrath have scanned 3 books of interment,book 1 will be online soon. There are 400 double pages in volume 3. Anyone can send 5$ to St Agnes cemetery and they will provide interment/burial information.. St Agnes holds books for many other churches St Mary’s ,St Cyrils, others.

Troy Hudson River Quadricetennial Celebration- booth starts at 10 am so Kris Ayotte cannot man booth but anyone else would be welcome to.  

 

NEW BUSINESS

Charter Changes- President Kris Ayotte said according to our bylaws we cannot eliminate Vice President. Suggestions are co vice presidents or a membership chairperson (Donna Vaughn). Kris has created the membership chair (Donna) who will temporarily set up meetings. The structure of the meetings may be changed to business meetings every 3 months with no agendas. We have to publish any proposed changes and it has to stay up 30 da days on our website,and comments are invited. Kris would like members or guests to talk on their Irish/ genealogical or related topics during the other meetings in an informal setting. 

Mimi Nicoti has hand transcribed the pew holder cards from  St Mary’s in Albany. Bill McGrath has an excel sheet for that information.

Donna Vaughn has been busy contacting members that haven’t attended in a while. She will be setting up future meeting spots temporarily and has booked Browns Brewery for the remaining meetings in 2009.

Kris Ayotte talked about the upcoming Victorian Stroll in December and said last year 5 members dressed up in costumes and manned a booth in City Hall and also sponsored a raffle and handed out brochures  as well as showed records from Troy. It runs from 10-5 and volunteers are needed this year as well

Jeanne Keefe noted a lot of information can be found for free from the 1911 Irish census posted online

Timothy Stone sent around a Stone family history book,that had much information in it.

Bob Sullivan sent around a copy of his ancestor from the Civil War who had written a journal.

Bob & Donna Vaughn told about info from Wales on Bobs family going back to 350AD

Next months meeting will also be at Brown’s Brew Pub on Thursday October 15,2009

 

ADJOURNMENT

A motion was made by and seconded to adjourn the meeting. The motion was approved and the meeting adjourned at 7:28 p.m.
