TROY IRISH GENEALOGY SOCIETY

Troy, New York

The regular monthly meeting of the Troy Irish Genealogy Society was held on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at the Italian Community Center, Troy, New York. The following individuals were in attendance:

The meeting was called to order at 615 p.m. by Kris Ayotte, President. The meeting was scheduled earlier to accommodate the address by John McEneny scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

A motion was made by Donna Vaughn and seconded by Frank Ryan to approve the minutes of the September 18, 2008 meeting. The motion passed. The minutes have been published on the TIGS website.

REPORTS

 There were no reports from the President, Vice President or Secretary.

Cathy McGrath, Treasurer, submitted a report to the President. The beginning balance was $1,152.38. Twenty dollars in dues were received from two members. The current balance in the treasury is $1,172.58. There are 102 paid members. Two new members paid for 2009.

Brad Miter, List Administrator, reported that there are 199 list members.

OLD BUSINESS

 The agenda item regarding the plant sale was tabled. Kris has been collecting containers for the perennials and would be glad to accept any container donations.

Kris is still working on setting up a trip to Salt Lake City in late April or early May.

In the absence of the Project Chairperson, Bill McGrath, the Marriage Index project update was tabled. Jeanne Keefe reported that Bill has sent her the names of the grooms for Volume 8.

The ballot for voting on the charter change regarding the List Administrator and Web Master will be put up on the web site in the next few days. Jeanne has received photos of the TIGS Ireland trip and will be put up on the web site soon.

Kris discussed our participation in the Victorian Stroll on December 6 in downtown Troy. She encouraged members to wear period clothing, if possible. Kris found a web site with reasonable prices for costumes – www.recollection.biz . TIGS will have a table in City Hall and volunteers will be needed.

The Church memorial project was briefly discussed. Donna Vaughn has taken photos and recorded all the memorial information for St. Joseph’s in Green Island.

NEW BUSINESS

 Pursuant to a request by Bill McGrath who was unable to attend the meeting, Kris asked the members to consider making a donation to the Hudson-Mohawk Industrial Gateway for restoration of the Burden Iron Mill Office in South Troy. The Executive Director, Tom Carroll, has been a good friend of local genealogical groups. A motion was made by Frank Ryan and seconded by Kris White to make a donation of $100 from the TIGS treasury. The motion was approved.

ADJOURNMENT

 A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting. The meeting adjourned at 6::30 p.m. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, November 20 2008 at 6:30 PM at Carol’s on Pawling Avenue in Albia.

The members and guests enjoyed a very interesting and informative address by John McEneny who shared his personal genealogy searches and sources.
