The regular monthly meeting of the Troy Irish Genealogy Society was held on Thursday, May 17, 2007 at the M.J.’s on the Avenue in North Troy, New York.   The following individuals were in attendance:

Kay Brearton                         Joyce Musco
Ed Dyer                                   Lori Skiff
Jeanne Keefe                        Jan Sullivan
Cathy McGrath                      Donna K. Vaughn
Kris White

The meeting was called to order at 6:40 p.m. by Donna Vaughn, President.

A motion was made by Jeanne Keefe and seconded by Ed Dyer to approve the minutes of the April 19, 2007 meeting.   The motion passed.  The minutes have been published on the TIGS website.

REPORTS

There were no reports from the President, Vice President or Secretary.

Cathy McGrath, Treasurer, reported that the balance in the treasury is $906.29.  There are 94 paid members.  The members discussed ordering checks and establishing a petty cash fund for minor expenditures.  A motion was made by Kris Ayotte to approve creating a petty cash fund in the amount of $15 and requiring that the Treasurer be notified a week in advance of any expenditures that require a check.  The motion was seconded by Ed Dyer.   The motion was approved.

Webmaster, Jeanne Keefe, reported that everything is up to date on the site.   Lizette Strait, List Administrator, reported that there are 192 list members.

Bill McGrath, Project Chairperson, recently spoke with the Rensselaer County Clerk, Frank Merola, who has offered to give TIGS brochures to individuals who sign in at the Clerk’s Office to research their records.   Bill suggested that a copy of the brochure and the business cards be sent to list members to allow them to download and print.  The members agreed that this was a good idea and it will be implemented.   Bill mentioned the recent issue of the Historian in the Times Record newspaper.   It was an excellent account of the history of Troy parks.  Volume III of the Rensselaer County Marriage Index has been transcribed and is in the process of being checked to make sure that the bride and groom data match.   Once that is completed, the bride and groom data will be merged and the information will be posted on the web site.   The next project will be Volumes 4 and 5 and several members offered to assist with the scanning.

Bill suggested a new project – recording the dedications on the various stained glass windows in Troy churches.   Jeanne Keefe believes someone has done that and will check into it.

Kris Ayotte agreed to meet with Jeanne Keefe and learn to manage the website in order to assist Jeanne.

OLD BUSINESS

Kris Ayotte provided an update on the proposed trip to Ireland in the Spring of 2008.   Once an itinerary, date and price are determined, the trip will be advertised on the TIGS list.

TIGS T-shirts and sweatshirts will be available for sale at meetings.   The shirts come in stone washed green and white and are short and long sleeve T-shirts and sweatshirts.   The donations are $10, $15 and $18 respectively.

The introduction for the resource lookup list is being reviewed.   When the review is completed, Jeanne Keefe will add the lookup list  to the website under “Resources”.

The next edition of the newsletter will be published in June.   Donna reminded the members that articles are invited for publication.    Pat Connors has sent a very interesting article for the June edition.   Mini Nicotina is working on an article regarding the service of Troy soldiers in WWI.

The Antique Appraisal Fair is scheduled for June 2 from 10-2.    Donna has sent an announcement to “The Advertiser” and members were given copies of the flyer about the event to post .   The members had an opportunity to view the poster board prepared by Lizette Strait which  will be used at the Fair on the June 2 and future events.

Two items were tabled – the Irish Fest 2000 and the Garden Tour.

NEW BUSINESS

Ed Dyer has not received any additional nominations for officer positions for the next year.   A motion was made by Ed Dyer and seconded by Jan Sullivan to close the nominations.   The motion was approved.    The ballot for voting will be posted on the web site.

Joyce Musco brought a copy of an 1865 Troy newspaper for the Genealogy Table.

ADJOURNMENT

Respectfully submitted,

Kathleen Brearton, Secretary
