Minutes of the June 17th, 2010 meeting of
TROY IRISH GENEALOGY SOCIETY

Meeting was called to order at 6:50 PM by President Kris Ayotte.

The following individuals were in attendance: Kris Ayotte, Jan Sullivan, Bob Sullivan, Gerri Sherry, Lizette Strait, Jeanne Keefe, Bill McMahon, Bill McGrath, Michael, Debbie and Katie Gilligan, Kris White and Richard Boland, Doris Moak, Francis X. Ryan, Timothy Stone, Noreen Iacobucci, Kay Brearton, Welcomed guest, Tim McGan.

REPORTS

Treasurer's report (L. Strait) - $3084.86 balance + $21.63 in petty cash; 72 paid members

List Administrator (Brad Miter) reported 220 members on list.

No other reports.


OLD BUSINESS

Bill McGrath reported: Rensselaer County Marriage Index project completed ?10 volumes with 60,000 names online.

Church memorials: Data collection has been completed for St. Mary's, St. Patrick's both in Troy , St. Mary's (Albany), St. Patrick's & St. Brigid's both in Watervliet. Compiling of data and history of each church is now being worked on.

Plans to work on St John Episcopal, Troy (Gerry Sherry) and the closed Holy Trinity, Troy

Kris Ayotte will contact an individual from the Community Arts Center about Woodside Presbyterian in South Troy. This group successfully received a $50,000 grant.

Jeanne Keefe needs volunteers to assist in scanning St. Mary cemetery records in her office at RPI.

Records of Toohey Funeral Home in Troy have been added to the TIGS website.

Bill reported on the possible transcription projects of records from Rensselaer County Historical Society e.g., Italian Midwife records from South Troy, 34,000 Surrogate Court records from 1791 to 1915 plus binders of vital statistic records extracted by the DAR from Troy newspapers in the early 1900's.. Problem with transferring information from RCHS data base. Tim Stone offered to work on software to solve problem.

Kris Ayotte will look into possibility of transcribing Old Mt. Ida cemetery records being held by the Troy Parks & Recreation Dept.

Kris asked for 2 to 3 volunteers who might restart the TIGS newsletter. The TIGS table for the Victorian Stroll in December will be set up in the RCHS building.

The slate of officers for the upcoming year are:

Donna Vaughn continues in non-elective position of Membership Chairperson and Bill McGrath as Project Coordinator.

25 votes have been cast on the web site to date.

Donna Vaughn (not present) has asked Kris to urge members to become move involved on the discussion portion of the Facebook page.

Kris reported there are still 5 openings for the Ireland trip.

Discussed having speakers at future meetings.

Additional TIGS brochures should be ordered; Kris would like the copy updated before more copies are made.

Bill noted that Rebecca Rector has compiled a list of all local Catholic churches that will be put on the website..

Kris White brought in a brochure from 1902 regarding St. Joseph in South Troy. Jeanne Keefe will copy for the website.

Next meeting July 15 at Moscatiello?'.

A motion made by Dick Boland and seconded by Kay Brearton to adjourn the meeting at 8:35 p.m.
