Donna K. Vaughn

The meeting was called to order at 6:50 p.m. by Donna Vaughn, President.

A motion was made by Jan Sullivan and seconded by Joan Howe to approve the minutes of the March 14, 2007 meeting.   The motion passed.  The minutes have been published on the TIGS website.

REPORTS

President Donna Vaughn asked if everyone had been able to access the newsletter.  She reported that NARA is proposing large fee increases for photocopying records, especially those involving the Civil War.

Kris Ayotte noted that many high school graduation classes are creating e-mail lists for their reunions and that it would be an excellent place to place an item regarding TIGS membership.  Kris recently contacted the list owner for her high school reunion.    Joan Howe suggested that CCHS be contacted and asked to add a short notice in their newsletter that is sent to alumni.   Ed Dyer will check with CCHS to see if this can be done.   Donna Vaughn offered to do the same for Green Island.

Kay Brearton, secretary, reported that the four volumes of St. Mary’s Troy marriage records has been published by the American Canadian Genealogy Society.    A copy will be donated to the Troy Public Library in the near future.

The current balance in the treasury is $876.29.   Cathy McGrath listed the recent expenditures that had been approved.   There are 95 paid members of TIGS.   There continues to be some confusion about when to pay dues and some people who had already paid $5.00 for the current year, paid another $10.00.   These individuals will be notified that they are paid through 2008.

Webmaster, Jeanne Keefe, was unable to attend the meeting.  Lizette Strait, List Administrator, was also unable to attend.   There are currently 192 list members.

OLD BUSINESS

Bill McGrath is coordinating the work on Volume 3 of the Rensselaer County Marriage Index.   There are 2000 records (4,000 names) in this volume.   The grooms are completed and the information was forwarded to a volunteer in Massachusetts (Bob McConihe) who is analyzing the data, checking for missing numbers, duplicate numbers, etc.   There are over 30 volunteers from various parts of the U.S. working on this project.   When Jeanne Keefe returns, she will send additional records to Bill which he in turn will send out to the volunteers to transcribe.

Kris Ayotte is compiling the death information in the 1900 Troy City Directory.

Discussion of the TIGS T-shirts and sweatshirts was tabled.

The antique appraisal fundraiser will be held at the Mountainview Fire House on Saturday, June 2, from 10 to 2.    The co-chairs for the event are Donna Vaughn and Jeanne Keefe.   Jan Sullivan, Cathy McGrath, Donna Vaughn, Kris Ayotte and Kay Brearton volunteered to work the event.

Donna expressed her regret that TIGS members were unable to participate in the Albany St. Patrick’s Day parade when it was rescheduled.   She was sorry if there was any confusion.

The members discussed how access to the new resource list will be handled; i.e., open only to paid members or open to everyone.   A motion was made by Cathy McGrath and seconded by Ed Dyer to open the resource list to everyone.   Volunteers who respond to requests will be asked to encourage that the requestors consider becoming paid members of TIGS.    The motion was approved.

The next edition of the TIGS newsletter will be published in June and Donna  encouraged members to submit items.

Ed Dyer reported that ten votes were submitted regarding the proposed changes to the Charter and all were in favor.   There were no negative comments received.   Donna will inform Jeanne Keefe so that the changes can be made in the Charter as published on the web site.

The poster board presentation has been put on a CD by Lizette Strait and will be printed.  It is expected to be ready next week.

Kris Ayotte recommended that the TIGS logo be included on all items produced by TIGS.

Discussion of TIGS participation the Irish Fest 2000 was tabled.

Kris Ayotte is working to put together a trip to Ireland, possibly in April 2008.   She will have more information at future meetings.

NEW BUSINESS

Ed Dyer offered to serve as Chair of the Nominating Committee for the election of officers for the coming year.   All the current officers agreed to serve again; however, any paid member who is able to attend the meetings is welcome to run for any office by notifying Ed.   A motion was made by Jan Sullivan and seconded by Joan Howe to approve the slate of current officers.   The motion passed.

Donna informed the members of several upcoming genealogy related presentations in the local area.

The members expressed their pleasure in meeting Joan Howe who was visiting from Iowa.   Joan is a former Trojan and has made many valuable contributions to the TIGS web site.

ADJOURNMENT

A motion was made by Cathy McGrath and seconded by Jan Sullivan and Ed Dyer to adjourn the meeting.   The motion was approved and the meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Kathleen Brearton, Secretary
