Patrick Hester/Hestor,
son of James and
Mary Donohoe Hester,
was born in Co.
Roscommon
in January, 1848.
At the
time of the 1881
census, he was
living in Bolton,
Lancashire Co.
England along
with
several other
Roscommon families
who
had gone to England
for work. Patrick
emigrated in 1883
and married Mary
Finneran
Riley, also from
Roscommon and
widow
of Terence Riley,
at the Cathedral
of the Immaculate
Conception in
Albany.
Mary was the mother
of Ellen
and twins
John and Katie.
Son Thomas
Hester was
born in December
1884.
From
the City Directories,
it appears that
Patrick was employed
as a
gardener
for the Menands
Nursery for a
year or two. From
that time on,
Patrick
was a gardener
at the Proudfit
Estate. The family
lived for many
years
on Vandenburgh
Ave. Patrick was
killed by a train
near the head
of 12th
Street in Watervliet
in early December
1915.
Step
daughter
Ellen Riley married
David Morrow.
John Riley married
Margaret
Smith who died
in 1905 and
then Elizabeth
Hooley. John died
in 1910. I have
no record of
Katie Riley's
marriage or death
and believe she
died young.
Son
Thomas Hester married
Anna Elizabeth
Slavin at St.
Bernard's
Church in Cohoes.?
